Edmundo González UrrutiaThe president-elect of Venezuela, Edmundo González Urrutia, is a career diplomat with extensive experience in the foreign service, having served as Venezuela’s ambassador to Argentina, El Salvador, and Algeria, as well as Director General of International Policy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. A university professor and author of works on foreign policy and Latin American integration, he was chosen in April 2024 as the unity candidate of the democratic opposition and was elected president on July 28 in a process broadly supported by the citizenry and recognized by international observers. From his exile in Spain, he leads the efforts toward a peaceful and constitutional democratic transition in Venezuela, grounded in the principles of freedom, justice, and national reconciliation.
